The Serenity Center was established in 1993 by people in recovery as a non-profit organization to provide a safe and loving environment in Maryland that supports and encourages the discovery of physical, emotional, and spiritual growth through 12-Step fellowships. The Center holds 12-Step meetings and self-help groups. The Serenity Center is operated by an extensive group of volunteers.
Our Facility
Capable of accommodating three meetings simultaneously, the Center includes a large kitchen and space for informal gatherings and hosts meetings in both English and Spanish.
The Center also is available for additional recovery meetings and for special events in Howard County associated with recovery through the 12 Steps.
Harmony Hall and the Quiet Waters room each feature a large television with a webcam usable for hybrid format meetings.

History of the Serenity Center
- May 1993 - The Serenity Center, Inc. established in Kings Contrivance business park
- June 1994 - Living in the Light 12-step book & gift shop opens at The Serenity Center
- September 1995 - Center moves to another building within Kings Contrivance business park
- September 2000 - Variety Show at Kittamaqundi Community Church
- January 2001 - The Serenity Center moves to Talbott Springs neighborhood
- February 2002 - Variety Show at Toby’s Dinner Theatre
- September 2002 - Fundraiser at Annapolis Seafood Festival
- September 2003 - 2nd Fundraiser at Annapolis Seafood Festival
- October 2003 - Letter of Intent to purchase The Serenity Center property
- September 2004 - Closing on purchase of The Serenity Center property
- February 2005 - Wedding ceremony and celebration hosted at the Center
- May 2008 - Endowment Fund established with The Columbia Foundation (now CFHoCo)
- May 2009 - Audrey Robbins Team of the Year Award in Howard County
- August 2009 - Howard County’s Community Service Program relocates to the Center
- February 2012 - Two new HVACs installed
- May 2012 - Parking lot and storm drain refurbished
- October 2012 - Outdoor benches upgraded
- January 2014 - Enduring memories in our hearts and minds of board member Tyler Johnson
- October 2015 - Main water pipe restoration
- July 2016 - New flooring installed
- October 2016 - Filtered water system installed
- April 2017 - Sidewalk renovation
